  3. GEAR IN THE PARK (GIT-P) Recap: Got Gear? You better believe it … lots of necessary, useful and interesting equipment was on display. The details, demonstrations and information shared by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic members of Emcomm and other attendees were a source everyone should be aware of when times warrant survival. The kind folks from the NRA shared information and details new and useful to most of us. We can all now know what it takes to be more prepared. What a great group! The pot luck BBQ was awesome thanks to Ray N6KZM and the other “master chefs” who pitched in to present a meal that left no one hungry. Much appreciation to all those who contributed their culinary delights. Finally, a huge shout-out to Rick KK6CTT and XYL Michelle for their organizational skills, their dedication to the cause and the presentation of the various equipment. We sure learned a lot about go boxes, go bags and the right way to be prepared in times of disaster both in surviving and emergency communication without the use of cell phones, computers, creature comforts and the lack of other forms of failed resources. It was a great event and everyone went away a lot more informed and hopefully prepared when a catastrophe or emergency situation arises. We look forward to Emcomm’s participation at the upcoming Field Day, June 24 and 25th as we return to the same location at Martha McLean Anza Narrows Park.

  7. Our February 9th RCARA meeting will feature Rich Palmer KK6CXA as our guest speaker. His presentation topic will be: WinLink 101. WinLink is a worldwide radio messaging system that uses amateur band radio frequencies to provide radio interconnection services that include email with attachments, position reports, weather bulletins and message relay. It has been used effectively with emergency relief communications. The presentation will include a live demonstration and Q&A ...session. Hope to see you there. Don't forget to invite your friends. It will be another good meeting and learning experience!
  8. JANUARY 12, 2017 MEETING PRESENTATION RECAP If you missed last night’s RCARA meeting, you lost out on a great presentation. Rick KK6CTT and his team, Ray N6KZM, Omar W6OXA, Mike AI6PD and Bob KG6NIB went to great lengths to display and explain several different types of Ham Radio “Go Boxes” designed to be operational off the grid and in the field in times of need. Each unit was different and ranged from high-end in cost to simplistic and economical. The combined and individual creativity and functionality was amazing. Rick gave a phenomenal talk about the necessity of being prepared and knowing what to do by planning ahead and being familiar with limitations. It didn’t end there because he gave hints and tips on how to accomplish what it takes to become better structured and organized. The audience hung on his every word and asked questions so they could enhance their own situation. The “Show and Tell” session was one of the best! We were talked through the equipment in each box, how it was constructed, the components usage and in some cases, the cost and where they could be purchased. It was interesting to see the similarities yet how they differed from each unit. Member reactions were extremely positive and “best meeting ever” was heard more than once. Questions were answered with ease and in understandable responses and uncomplicated. Thank you Rick, Ray, Omar, Mike and Bob for your energies and dedication in keeping RCARA and the ham world informed and knowledgeable. Your collective skills are much appreciated and we look forward to more of the same in the future. Photos will be posted soon.

Thanks Rick ... I foresee a trip to Home Depot in the very near future ... will probably pick up a couple of cases as they seem to have multi uses in addition to a quick HT go box. Hope they have an ample supply as I will mention the potential to the club. ~M
